Tackling Homelessness on Our Doorstep: Supporting Slough Outreach
Homelessness remains a significant challenge in many communities, affecting individuals and families in profound ways. Here in Slough, we’re fortunate to have dedicated organisations like Slough Outreach working tirelessly on the front lines, providing essential support, care, and hope to the homeless and vulnerable. It was with their vital mission in mind that our community came together last week.
I had the privilege of joining the HSS UK Maidenhead & Slough Walkathon, an inspiring annual event. It was particularly encouraging to see this support extend to our local leadership, with the Mayor of Slough and several local councillors attending – some generously seeing us off at the start, while others impressively walked alongside us. Their presence underscored the collective effort. As the saying goes, ‘charity begins at home,’ it felt deeply meaningful to contribute directly to helping those in need right here on our doorstep.
A huge thank you to the organisers, HSS Sewa UK. Their commitment, rooted in the principle of ‘Sewa’ (selfless service), was evident in the smooth running of the event and the positive atmosphere we fostered under the banner “Walk With Heart, Serve With Soul!”.
We covered a good distance through the local parks and along the Jubilee River. Beyond the crucial fundraising, the walk itself was a wonderful opportunity to get active, connect with familiar faces, and be part of something bigger than ourselves.
For those who couldn’t attend but wish to contribute, or if you feel inspired to give, you can still support the fantastic work of Slough Outreach. https://tinyurl.com/HSS-SewaFundraising
