This weekend saw me do yoga for mental health charity!
It was World Mental Health Day last week and the good folks at HSS Sewa in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead organised a yoga session to raise funds for the SAMARITANS, an organisation committed to helping people who are struggling.
As a Mental Health First Aider, I recognise the need to look after our Mental Health, what better way to do that, than some yoga, for the mind, body and spirit!
Early Sunday, I’d normally be snoozing, but this week saw me attend a yoga session organised by volunteers, some being young children and supported by parents and well-wishers who this year have walked, run, cycled and swam in the name of charity.
Sewa is a Sanskrit term meaning the ‘selfless service to humanity and nature’, which as a concept was contemplated and revered some thousands of years ago.
It was amazing to me that not just financial donations of charity but also of voluntary time, what great ethics, showing moral leadership, social cohesion and responsibility!
Not just on world mental health day, but every day, let us be reminded to take care of ourselves, and try and get a bit of yoga in!
